TASK

Task 2: Composition

1. References

I referenced a circus image that I got off the internet, and for my composition I referenced a complex vs simple composition from the Framed Ink book.

2. Rationale

Main idea:

Anselm is a puppet jester who resembles his maker. He was made to satisfy the secret desire of his creator. He only experiences joy, which others may define in a twisted manner, depending on your point of view.

The hat, the stick, and his six eyes are his three primary attributes, the stick is merely ornamental and has no power. The hat has tentacles attached, he can more easily grab his prey because it can stretch to capture them. Because it can see everything, his six eyes are the most powerful because they prevent his victim from ever escaping.

He is a kind jester who enjoys making jokes and he never annoys anyone who is not his target. He can eat with both of his mouths, but he primarily uses the bottom one since it allows him to digest his food more quickly.

This is his debut picture of his series of massacre, now the incident is known as "the first canvas".

Power system:

For elaboration and the pokemon system, I used AI to help me develop my main ideas. The reason is because I've never played pokemon at all, so I don't know what specific power names I should give my characters.

Ability

  • Unescapable Vision
    • Effect: The opponent cannot escape or switch out. This reflects Anselm's six-eyed ability to see everything, trapping his prey and preventing them from fleeing.
  • Moveset
    • Gaze of the Six-Eyes
      • Type: Psychic
      • Energy Cost: 1 Psychic Energy
      • Damage: 60
      • Effect: Reduces the target’s evasiveness.
      • Description: Anselm's piercing gaze traps the opponent, preventing escape. The target becomes confused, and their evasiveness is reduced by one stage.
    • Ensnaring Hat
      • Type: Dark
      • Energy Cost: 2 Dark Energy
      • Damage: 80
      • Effect: May also lower the opponent's speed.
      • Description: Anselm uses his hat's tentacles to ensnare the opponent, dealing damage and preventing them from switching out. The target has a 30% chance to become paralyzed.

3. Sketches

I checked my background characters and started sketching out the main idea.

After getting feedback, I realized that I hadn't actually referenced the framed ink but I decided to implement the framed ink in my digitalization.

4. Digitalization

Before feedback

This is my initial work before feedback, I made a mistake of by creating the composition without sketching first, so the composition looks cramped.

After feedback

Before this process I decided to make a sketch and then get feedback from Mr. Hafiz. Now I try to apply the framed ink I chose (see reference) and redo my artwork.

Final composition

5. Pokemon card

For this part I decided to use pokemon card maker to save time. Since I've never played pokemon at all, this actually helped me explain its abilities better because I don't know the power system. By looking at the layout the website gives, it's easier for me to understand the pokemon card system. Refer to the rationale for elaborate explanation of the power system.

REFLECTION

Experience

My experience with this assignment has been enjoyable because I liked the previous one, so continuing it has been just as fun for me. I really enjoy creating new characters, and this time, I also got to develop their lore and power system, which I found really exciting. Additionally, I learned about Framed Ink and gained a better understanding of composition and lighting, which made the process even more enjoyable.

Observation

I observed my classmates while they worked on this assignment, and watching them inspired me and gave me a clearer idea of what to do. I also noticed how they applied Framed Ink concepts in their artwork, which was really insightful.

Findings

I learned how to improve my Adobe Illustrator skills and how to be more creative by developing lore for my characters.
