GROUP ASSIGNMENT - INTRODUCTION TO INFOGRAPHICS

This week, Mr. Martin divided the class into several groups for future assignments. Our first task was to research the definition of infographics and their types with examples. Then, we had to create a  presentation slides and present it in class. Below is our work.

FLIP CLASS

In this assignment, we were required to redesign a poorly constructed infographic.

Chosen Infographic:

Fig 2.1 Chosen infographic to redesign

I chose this one because it does not have a single clear focus, due to the heavy use of icons and colors, and it also has a weak visual hierarchy.

These are the references I used before redesigning the infographic.

Progress

Before redesigning, I chose Canva as the free online tool because I am familiar with the application. It provides many free elements, and even when using premium elements, the watermark does not significantly interfere with the design.

I started by choosing the direction I wanted, then inserted the base icons and colors. Here, I decided to make the main visual a faucet on the wall, with a water droplet coming out of it that leads to a large amount of water. This visual would serve as the base for the information later on.

I added a gradient to the wall to make the shadow smoother. Then, I added a water ripple to separate the header and the content. The element I used here is a premium one. However, the watermark is not very visible, so it doesn't look bad when exported.

Then, I decided to make the water look smoother by adding the same gradient effect I used on the wall, which also helped make the ripple more visible.

This is the header format that I had in mind. However, I felt that something was still missing, so I planned to make further adjustments later.

Fig 2.6 Header design

Here, I just readjusted the header by changing its alignment to match the faucet.

Fig 2.7 Readjusting the header

This is the final layout. However, I still felt that the colors were a bit flat, so I made some adjustments later (see the final result).

Final Result

Before finalizing, I decided to change some of the colors and add a shadow to the faucet. After that, the design was complete.

EXERCISE 1

In this exercise, we were required to quantify and visualize data. I used safety pins that I had and arranged them in a WiFi pattern.
